On August 31, 2026, Nissan Motor and Honda Motor announced an agreement to jointly develop core systems and software for next-generation vehicles, including in-vehicle operating systems and electronic control units (ECUs). This technology is expected to be implemented starting from the fiscal year beginning in April 2029, and is designed to be compatible with pure electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and fuel-powered vehicles. This collaboration aims to shorten development cycles, improve resource allocation efficiency, and share research and development costs. Previously, the two sides had considered a merger but the negotiations collapsed, and this collaboration represents a significant achievement in project-level cooperation.
