On August 30th, as reported by the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Honda and Nissan have inked a deal to collaboratively develop a cutting-edge operating system and Electronic Control Unit (ECU), leveraging Nissan's technological prowess. The official announcement of this partnership is slated for the 31st. The two automotive giants aim to outfit models rolling out in 2029 with integrated ECUs and operating systems, paving the way for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) that allow for seamless and continuous upgrades of vehicle functionalities. Discussions between Honda and Nissan regarding SDV collaboration have been underway since March 2024, spanning roughly two and a half years. Prior to this, the duo had also explored the possibility of management integration, but ultimately called off negotiations in February of the previous year.
