Honda and Nissan are on the verge of finalizing an agreement, potentially as soon as August 31, to collaboratively develop a unified operating system and in-vehicle computers. Their ambition is to integrate this cutting-edge technology into new vehicle models by 2029 at the earliest. Honda has revealed that, within the framework of a tripartite partnership, it is actively exploring potential areas of cooperation with both Nissan and Mitsubishi. Nissan, for its part, had earlier disclosed ongoing discussions with Honda regarding software-related collaborations. The duo had already contemplated joining forces in the realm of software-defined vehicles and commenced foundational research in March 2024. In December of the same year, they embarked on negotiations aimed at a business merger. However, after the breakdown of these negotiations in February 2025, both parties persisted in seeking project-level cooperation opportunities.
