Ferrari has recently disclosed a pioneering design patent featuring a movable tail light assembly. This innovative design integrates the tail lights into the aerodynamic pathway situated between the rear wing and the diffuser. In scenarios where the vehicle necessitates increased downforce, an actuator can propel the tail light assembly to shift rearward and upward. This movement effectively extends the trailing edge of the rear wing, thereby amplifying the downforce exerted on the rear axle. Notably, the left and right tail lights are capable of functioning autonomously.
Furthermore, for its inaugural SUV model, the Purosangue, Ferrari has devised a streamlined solution. In this variant, the tail lights are engineered to rotate solely in a rearward and upward direction. This strategy leverages existing components to enhance aerodynamics, eliminating the need for substantial additional parts or compromising the vehicle's sleek body lines, which is a consideration deeply rooted in automotive design culture where form often follows function without sacrificing aesthetic appeal.
