Volvo Cars has unveiled plans to equip three of its models—the EX90, ES90, and EX60—with advanced road hazard warning systems. This innovative feature facilitates the real-time exchange of information among vehicles via connected technology, drawing on fleet data from the Americas, Europe, and Asia. To function effectively, vehicles must maintain a cloud connection and operate on roads that are included in the map database. Presently, the system is designed to address four primary risk scenarios: encounters with large animals, interactions with vulnerable road users, road construction zones, and traffic accidents.

Over a million Volvo vehicles are already equipped with this connected safety warning feature. Furthermore, Volvo actively shares the collected warning data with traffic management centers and extends its availability to other automotive brands. The roots of this technology can be traced back to a cloud-based system for slippery road and hazard warning light alerts, which Volvo developed in collaboration with Ericsson in 2016.
