On August 25 (local time), Waymo, the autonomous driving arm of Alphabet, unveiled its ambitious plan to roll out a driverless taxi service in Munich, Germany, by the close of 2027. In the weeks ahead, Waymo will deploy vehicles in Munich for manually driven testing, with the dual aim of crafting high-definition maps and fine-tuning its autonomous driving software. Initially, a modest fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles will hit the streets, with a strategic vision to scale up operations progressively.
