On August 25, the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress commenced its preliminary examination of the proposed amendments to the Road Traffic Safety Law. This amendment draft encompasses a newly established dedicated section named "Special Regulations for Autonomous Vehicles". Within this section, the definitions of autonomous vehicles and assisted driving features are explicitly outlined. It further specifies that in the event of road traffic safety infractions while the autonomous driving capability is engaged, the liability shall rest with the manufacturer or importer. Conversely, vehicles with the autonomous driving function not in use, or those solely equipped with assisted driving capabilities, will be regulated in the same manner as traditional, non-autonomous vehicles.
