Cui Dongshu, representing the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), highlighted in an article that by the close of June 2026, the volume of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China had surged to 48.97 million, constituting 13.19% of the entire automotive fleet—a notable increase of 2.92 percentage points compared to the previous year. In 2026, the NEV sector in China arrived at a crucial turning point. Based on data forecasts from the Ministry of Public Security and the CPCA, by the year's end, the quantity of NEVs aged over eight years is projected to hit 2.6 million. These vehicles, among the early adopters in the private consumer market, will progressively surpass the nationally stipulated minimum power battery warranty period of '8 years or 120,000 kilometers'. As the warranty periods for a substantial number of vehicles currently in use draw to a close, challenges such as battery malfunction repairs, diminished driving range, and safety assurances have become increasingly apparent, presenting significant hurdles for the NEV after-sales service sector.
