On August 10, 2026, Hyundai Motor Group revealed its plan to initiate a pilot project for autonomous parking robots at the Hillstate Wave City apartment complex, situated in Siheung City, to the southwest of Seoul. This initiative, taking advantage of the South Korean government's Smart City Regulatory Sandbox program, is spearheaded by Hyundai Motor Group and carried out in collaboration with its automotive parts subsidiary, Hyundai Wia, as well as Hyundai Construction. Within the underground garage on the first floor of the apartment complex, two parking robots developed by Hyundai Wia will be put into operation. These compact robots, standing at a mere 110 millimeters in height, are designed to maneuver beneath vehicles, elevate their wheels, and transport them to predetermined parking spots. Outfitted with LiDAR sensors and capable of reaching speeds of up to 1.2 meters per second, they are adept at autonomously parking vehicles weighing up to 3.4 tons, including SUVs. The project's primary objectives are to alleviate parking space scarcity in residential zones through robotic innovation, bolster parking safety, and pioneer an intelligent parking management system that seamlessly integrates robotic technology with the day-to-day operations of residential parking facilities. The apartment complex, which boasts 1,796 units, is anticipated to welcome its first residents next year, with the project's official rollout also scheduled for that time.
