On August 6th, reports emerged indicating that Honda Motor is, for the first time, outsourcing the development of a new vehicle platform to India’s Tata Technologies, in an effort to reduce R&D expenses. The platform in question is anticipated to accommodate multiple models and seamlessly integrate with traditional fuel, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains. Previously, Honda predominantly handled the development of its core vehicle platforms in-house or delegated the task to long-standing collaborative suppliers. This move to outsource signifies a notable strategic shift for the company.
