On July 29, the China Automotive Standardization Institute highlighted that, currently, several vehicle models equipped with driving assistance systems, known as 'small blue lights,' are experiencing issues related to the misuse of these lights. At night, the blue light emitted by these systems can easily cause glare, obstructing the vision of other drivers. Concurrently, vehicles equipped with such lights are also more susceptible to being closely followed and maliciously cut off, thereby escalating road traffic risks.

Presently, the existing GB 4785—2019 standard lacks explicit regulations concerning external blue lights used in intelligent driving systems. According to the principles outlined in the standard, vehicles are prohibited from installing external optical signaling devices that are not specified by regulations. Furthermore, international working groups continue to debate the merits and demerits of such indicator lights.

Under the guidance of the competent authorities, the National Technical Committee of Auto Standardization is undertaking the formulation and revision of the GB 4785 standard, titled 'Installation Requirements for External Lighting and Light Signaling Devices of Motor Vehicles and Their Trailers.' Additionally, the committee is collaborating to reinforce the admission review and testing verification management of 'aggressive' product innovation designs. These efforts aim to further regulate the installation and use of vehicle lighting, ultimately enhancing the safety performance of automotive products.
