On June 28, Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), revealed in an article that China imported 38,000 vehicles in May 2026, a 19% year-on-year (YoY) decrease. Although transportation was disrupted due to the conflict between the United States and Iran, the overall decline in vehicle imports was relatively moderate, attributed to the low import volume in January 2025. From January to May 2026, China imported a total of 160,000 vehicles, down 11% YoY. In recent years, with the growing popularity of domestically produced vehicles and the rapid localization of international brands, vehicle imports have remained sluggish, experiencing negative growth for three consecutive years—or even eight years when considering longer-term trends.
