On June 27th, reports surfaced indicating that Mercedes-Benz is taking austerity measures in response to a substantial slump in profits. The company has made the decision to delay the payment of the 'transformation bonus'—which amounts to 18.4% of an employee's monthly salary—for around 90,000 German trade union members. Originally slated for July 2026, the bonus will now be postponed until April 2027, and there is a possibility of it being canceled entirely if business conditions do not show improvement. Furthermore, the company's management is contemplating extending the weekly working hours from 35 to 40 without providing additional overtime pay. According to the financial report released by Mercedes-Benz in February of this year, its net profit for 2025 plummeted to €5.3 billion, down from €10.4 billion in 2024, marking a nearly 50% decrease.
