On June 24, John Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, along with his delegation, made a visit to Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) to delve into the intricacies of the chocolate battery swap ecosystem. During their tour, they explored an array of vehicle models that have been integrated with the innovative chocolate battery swap system. These models encompassed passenger cars, light trucks, VANs, and notably, the right-hand drive iteration of the Hong Kong battery swap taxi, the Hongqi E-QM5.

Presently, Hong Kong boasts two operational chocolate battery swap stations, with the first batch of battery swap taxis already in service. This milestone signifies the tangible commencement of the battery swap model in the region. Looking ahead, it is anticipated that by the close of 2030, around 36 battery swap stations will be strategically established throughout Hong Kong. These stations will be strategically located to cover major core hubs and cater to the needs of high-frequency commercial vehicles, thereby weaving a city-wide green mobility battery swap network.
