Waymo has announced the recall of thousands of self-driving taxis due to the risk that the vehicles may enter highway construction zones at high speeds. Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. and a sibling company to Google, is targeting certain vehicles equipped with its fifth-generation self-driving system for this recall. Several safety incidents have occurred previously, where the vehicles failed to recognize closed ramp signs and drove directly into planned construction zones.
