On June 17, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea unveiled the 'May Automotive Industry Trends' data, revealing that in May, South Korea's automobile export value stood at US$5.83 billion, marking a 5.9% year-on-year decrease. The export volume was 230,072 vehicles, also down by 6.6% year-on-year. Domestic sales amounted to 127,315 vehicles, experiencing a 10.3% year-on-year decline, while production reached 329,559 vehicles, dropping by 8.2% year-on-year. Despite the overall downturn in the data, new energy vehicles showcased resilience. Their export value soared to US$2.4 billion in May, a notable 9.9% year-on-year increase, making up over 40% of the total automobile exports. The export volume of new energy vehicles was 83,145 units, up by 11.2% year-on-year, and domestic sales hit 77,179 vehicles, a 5.5% year-on-year rise.
