China's burgeoning automobile exports have spurred a significant uptick in demand for car carrier vessels. These sophisticated ships place stringent precision demands on the steel used in their construction. A steel enterprise based in Nanjing projects its production of marine steel to exceed 2 million tons this year, with long-term contracts already in place extending to 2028. Fueled by this downstream demand, prices for high-end steel have climbed, with the average market price for shipbuilding plates escalating from 4,100 yuan per ton to around 4,300 yuan per ton.
Shipbuilding companies predominantly employ price-locking strategies to manage costs. High-end steel, renowned for its high added value, generates substantial profit margins. Furthermore, several steel products developed by Chinese manufacturers have attained internationally leading quality standards, propelling the transformation and modernization of ship equipment.
