On the 10th, the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW) announced that Tesla’s Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) system has been cleared for operation on public roads in the Netherlands. This marks the first European country to grant approval for the system’s use. According to the RDW, the system has undergone a rigorous one-and-a-half-year testing phase and, when used correctly, can contribute to improved road safety. However, it is crucial to emphasize that this system remains an advanced driver-assistance feature, and drivers are required to remain attentive and in control of the vehicle at all times. Sensors within the vehicle will continuously monitor driver engagement to ensure they can intervene promptly when needed. Should the driver’s attention falter, the system will issue alerts and temporarily suspend operation until proper control is restored.
