On March 25, Sony and Honda released a collaborative statement, officially declaring the cessation of the development and market introduction of the Afeela line of electric vehicles. This includes the Afeela 1, which had already entered the trial production phase, along with a second model in the pipeline. Initially, the Afeela 1 was slated for delivery in mid-2026 in both Japan and California, USA, with a reservation fee of $200 already collected from interested customers. In light of the project's cancellation, the joint venture will promptly issue full refunds for these deposits. The decision to terminate the project arises from Honda's strategic realignment in its electrification efforts, which has made the original business plan untenable.
