On March 21, Lei Jun took to Weibo to discuss the passive safety features of the latest-generation SU7. He mentioned that, based on tests carried out by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), in a 50% offset frontal vehicle-to-vehicle collision scenario, when two vehicles collide head-on at a combined relative speed of 120 km/h (with each vehicle traveling at 60 km/h), the impact energy generated is 1.44 times greater than that under standard testing conditions. During a prior press conference, Lei Jun inadvertently misspoke when elucidating the concept of relative speed, using the phrase “equivalent to crashing into a wall at a speed of 120 km/h.” He has since issued an apology for this inaccurate statement.
