Seven years ago, an electric vehicle (EV) owner in Zhejiang Province invested 250,000 yuan in purchasing an electric car. Now, they find themselves facing a dilemma: the cost of replacing the battery significantly outweighs the car's remaining market value. This scenario is not unique but rather a widespread issue among early adopters of electric vehicles. According to the national standard, power batteries come with an 8-year or 120,000-kilometer warranty. However, the lifespan of an EV's body can extend up to 15 to 16 years. It is projected that over the next eight years, more than 41.6 million electric vehicles will reach the end of their warranty periods. Should owners bear the full cost of battery replacements, estimated at 60,000 yuan per battery, the total societal expense could soar to a staggering 2.5 trillion yuan.
