BMW's M division plans to launch its first off-road model, codenamed G74, which is expected to enter production in the United States in 2029, competing against the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Land Rover Defender. The new vehicle may replace the XM plug-in hybrid SUV, which will cease production at the end of 2028, and could offer three powertrain options: gasoline, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid, built on an improved next-generation X5 platform.
