smart Automobile has officially declared a recall for a specific batch of its pure electric vehicles. This recall encompasses smart #1 models manufactured between August 12, 2022, and October 19, 2023, as well as smart #3 models produced from October 19, 2022, to August 7, 2023. The root cause of this recall lies in manufacturing discrepancies within the power battery components of these particular batches. Such inconsistencies may trigger an abnormal surge in internal resistance following extended usage, subsequently leading to performance deterioration and potential safety risks.
In response, smart has duly submitted a comprehensive report to the State Administration for Market Regulation. The company will undertake thorough inspections or implement remote diagnostics for the vehicles affected by this issue. Furthermore, smart is committed to providing complimentary battery replacements for vehicles whose problematic batteries have not yet been replaced, accompanied by real-time cloud-based monitoring to ensure ongoing safety and performance.
This recall initiative involves a total of 16,072 smart #1 vehicles and 2,145 smart #3 vehicles. It is important to note that newly sold vehicles are exempt from this recall. Commencing March 17, smart will systematically invite vehicles necessitating battery replacements to their respective dealerships in batches. This strategic approach aims to mitigate any inconvenience to users' daily travel routines.
