Daniel Schmollinger, the Managing Director and CEO of Porsche Australia, has confirmed that the projects for the all-electric 718 Boxster (convertible) and 718 Cayman (coupe) are advancing in line with the original plan. Following a test drive of the new car's prototype, he commented that the vehicle not only preserves its classic handling characteristics but also delivers even more formidable power. Earlier, Porsche's newly appointed CEO had indicated that the company was reassessing the project, which raised concerns among observers. Originally, Porsche had intended to exclusively offer all-electric powertrains for the next-generation Boxster and Cayman models. However, subsequent reports hinted that certain versions might retain internal combustion engines. Schmollinger clarified that, as of now, there has been no official announcement about the reintroduction of fuel-powered models. Porsche's headquarters will persist in evaluating market opportunities, with the management team reassessing the product roadmap every six months to guide R&D and production decisions.
