On February 5th, data released by the Japan Automobile Importers Association (JAIA) revealed that sales of imported vehicles (excluding those from Japanese manufacturers) in Japan experienced a 12% year-on-year decline in January, totaling 13,019 units. Notably, sales of pure electric vehicles (EVs) witnessed a remarkable 68% increase, reaching 2,041 units, signaling a rebound in growth following a previous month's lull. In terms of brand performance, Mercedes-Benz led the pack with a 13% decrease in sales, totaling 3,031 units; Volkswagen saw a steeper 41% decline, with 1,528 units sold; BMW's sales dipped by 17%, amounting to 1,383 units; meanwhile, BYD emerged as a standout performer, with its sales soaring to 3.4 times the previous figure, hitting 180 units.
