Based on a Reuters news story from January 28, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that Volkswagen is set to recall 44,551 ID.4 all-electric vehicles in the U.S., with the recall being carried out in two separate phases. The primary cause for this recall is the potential for thermal runaway and subsequent fires in the high-voltage battery system, a risk linked to battery cell modules provided by South Korean battery manufacturer SK On. Volkswagen will offer complimentary repair services for the affected vehicles. These services will encompass battery health assessments, software updates, and, if required, the replacement of battery modules.
