On January 28, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the issuance of the compulsory national standard (GB 39901—2025), which is set to take effect on January 1, 2028. This standard marks a significant upgrade from a recommended standard to a compulsory one. Its scope of application has also been broadened, initially applicable only to M1-class vehicles, it now encompasses both M1 and N1-class vehicles. Additionally, the standard introduces new stipulations for the identification of vulnerable road users, including pedestrians and cyclists, and incorporates simulation test items to enhance safety measures.
