On January 26th, news emerged that the State Administration for Market Regulation had given its approval and officially issued the mandatory national standard, "Basic Requirements for Automotive Steering Systems," which is set to take effect on July 1st.

This new standard explicitly outlines the technical specifications and testing procedures for automotive steering systems. It establishes safety benchmarks for cutting-edge technologies like steer-by-wire systems. Its significance lies in fostering the widespread adoption of steer-by-wire technology and standardizing the development trajectory of automotive steering systems within China.

In a bid to fortify the industry's safety framework and keep pace with technological evolution, this revised standard has enhanced the technical criteria for steer-by-wire systems, along with functional safety prerequisites for conventional steering systems and auxiliary steering mechanisms. By maintaining a stringent focus on safety, it simultaneously encourages pivotal technological advancements, such as novel chassis architectures, through the vehicle of standardization.
