On January 23, Toyota Motor Corporation issued a response to media reports circulating on the social media platform X. The company acknowledged that the ongoing surge in prices has significantly impacted Japan's automotive sector. Specifically, there have been substantial hikes in energy, raw material, logistics, and labor expenses. These escalating costs have made it untenable for parts suppliers to sustain production at previously agreed-upon prices. Toyota revealed that over the past four and a half years, it has compensated suppliers with an additional ¥5.1 trillion to cover these rising expenses. The automaker further warned that if the costs of parts keep climbing, it will have no choice but to raise vehicle prices, a move that could erode Japan's competitive edge in terms of pricing.
