On January 19th, news emerged that Xiang Shaoqing, Yifan Li, and Kai Sun—the trio of founders behind the listed LiDAR specialist Hesai Technology—have collectively launched a new venture named Sharpa. This newly formed company is dedicated to the advancement of general robots and their essential components.
According to a source within Hesai Technology, Hesai and Sharpa operate as two distinct entities, with no equity ties or business control between them. Hesai is of the view that engaging with AI companies can broaden the team's horizons and be beneficial for its own operations. Looking ahead, the LiDAR market within the robotics industry is anticipated to outgrow that of the automotive sector. Moreover, Hesai plans to diversify its offerings to encompass other vital robot components, not solely focusing on LiDAR.
