On January 4, The Wall Street Journal reported that Xiaomi’s manufacturing facility in China has ignited a surge of interest, drawing crowds of “tiger mom” parents, social media “check-in” tourists, and automotive enthusiasts who all vie for a chance to visit through an online lottery system. Securing a visit has become as challenging as gaining admission to a prestigious university.

Since Xiaomi opened online reservations and lottery sign-ups for its automated factory located in Beijing’s outskirts, both local residents and out-of-town visitors have rushed to participate, sparking lively discussions across social media platforms. To secure one of the roughly 200 available visit slots between December of last year and January of this year, over 100,000 people entered the lottery.

Xiaomi’s car factory is capable of producing a new vehicle every 76 seconds, leaving visitors astounded by its remarkable level of automation and technological sophistication. In response to student demand during the winter break, Xiaomi has increased the number of available visit slots for January of this year to 126.
