Tesla's robotaxi service has rolled out a new, practical policy: passengers who leave the vehicle in a messy state will be liable for a cleaning fee. Presently, the service categorizes cleaning fees into two levels, based on the extent of cleaning work needed. The highest fee for heavily soiling the vehicle's interior is set at $150, whereas a minor cleanup incurs a $50 charge. Currently, most of Tesla's fleet operates in a semi-autonomous driving mode, and vehicle cleaning still necessitates human involvement. Implementing a cleaning fee policy offers a justifiable rationale for this. Ensuring vehicle cleanliness is paramount for shared mobility services. While achieving full autonomy for robotaxis marks an initial milestone, the true challenge lies in addressing problems stemming from human behavior. Tesla's cleaning fee initiative is designed to streamline the process of holding those who violate cleanliness standards accountable.
