Recently, a significant number of Hello Electric Vehicle users have reported experiencing "service disruptions" with their vehicles. These disruptions have affected functions typically included in the "permanent membership" package, such as remote positioning and battery level checks. In some cases, vehicles have even "powered off and locked" during rides. Hello attributed these issues to the phase-out of 2G networks, which has rendered some vehicles unable to unlock. However, users have expressed dissatisfaction, stating that they were not informed at the time of purchase that the vehicles relied on 2G communication. As a result, they now find themselves having to bear the cost of upgrades.
In August 2020, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology mandated that new IoT terminals cease using 2G or 3G networks. Despite this directive, Hello proceeded to release multiple electric vehicle models that still utilized 2G networks.
Hello's proposed solution for users to continue using their vehicles involves starting the vehicles via Bluetooth or purchasing a "4G Smart Chip" at their own expense. The company has only committed to refunding membership fees that exclude permanent membership benefits. This approach has significantly diminished the functionality of the permanent gold membership, leading users to criticize Hello's handling of the situation and attitude as inadequate and short-sighted.
