During the inaugural week of December 2025, China’s new energy vehicle market achieved a momentous milestone. Between December 1st and 7th, the national retail penetration rate for new energy passenger vehicles soared to 62.2%, while the wholesale penetration rate surged to 64.3%. This achievement signifies the market’s formal entry into the 60% era. This significant breakthrough underscores the market’s consistent upward trajectory, as the penetration rate for new energy passenger vehicles had already climbed to 59.3% in November. From January to November, the cumulative retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles amounted to 11.472 million units, marking a 19.6% year-on-year increase and significantly outpacing traditional fuel vehicles. Domestic brands excelled, with an NEV penetration rate reaching as high as 79.6% in November. With the ongoing implementation of preferential policies for new energy vehicle purchase taxes, the enforcement of unrestricted license plate policies, and the continual enhancement of charging infrastructure, the market is anticipated to sustain steady growth in the future.
