The latest research indicates that larger vehicle types, such as SUVs, pose a greater threat to pedestrian safety rather than electric vehicles. Research from the IIHS in the United States points out that SUVs and pickup trucks carry a risk of causing severe injury or death to pedestrians in collisions that is 2 to 3 times higher than that of ordinary sedans, primarily due to the increased vehicle height, which leads to direct impacts on the pedestrian's chest or internal organs during a collision. In contrast, while the silent nature of electric vehicles has raised concerns about collision risks in urban areas, data shows that the proportion of pedestrian casualties caused by them is not a major source of threat.
