Jon McNeill, who previously served as President of Global Sales and Service at Tesla and is now a board member of General Motors, disclosed that Tesla once took apart Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) to glean insights from their design and engineering approaches. This included studying their innovative practices in component reuse, which Tesla later incorporated into its own models, such as the Model 3 and Model Y. McNeill emphasized that Chinese automakers demonstrate remarkable ingenuity in reusing components, a strategy that extends even to auxiliary parts.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also highlighted that the Model Y shares around 75% of its components with the Model 3, a move aimed at boosting production efficiency. Moreover, Ford CEO Jim Farley was taken aback after disassembling both Tesla and Chinese EVs, prompting a thorough reevaluation and subsequent overhaul of Ford's strategies.
