Based on data from the Zhejiang Court Network, on November 24, the Hangzhou Xiaoshan District People's Court is set to preside over a contract - dispute case involving Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Hangzhou Wuyou Media Co., Ltd. Wuyou Media clarified that the root of the dispute lies in a vehicle - purchase subsidy policy. In 2022, Wuyou Media bought a Tesla. Tesla initially covered RMB 7,761 in new - energy subsidies, stipulating that the vehicle must accumulate 20,000 kilometers of mileage within two years. Nevertheless, the vehicle's mileage ultimately fell short of the required standard. Since Tesla couldn't claim the national subsidy as a result, it demanded a refund of the subsidy amount. Fortunately, both parties have successfully reached a settlement, prompting Tesla to file an application to dismiss the lawsuit.
Since July 2025, Tesla has issued more than 30 court announcements concerning contract disputes. Tesla has sued companies across different regions, accusing them of not meeting the national subsidy requirements regarding mileage within two years of purchasing Tesla vehicles. The demanded subsidy refunds range from RMB 7,000 to RMB 15,000. Some of these companies have settled the disputes, and in a few cases, they even managed to negotiate a reduction in the refund amount. Previously, a "Notification Letter on Submitting Additional Payments Due to New Energy Vehicle Mileage Not Meeting Standards" was displayed on the vehicle screens of these companies.
According to a 2019 notice from the Ministry of Finance, vehicles with operational mileage requirements that fail to reach 20,000 kilometers within two years from the registration date will be ineligible for subsidies. Moreover, any pre - allocated funds will be deducted.
