On November 19, 2025, Tesla officially opened its Robotaxi service to the public. Currently, only iPhone users can book rides in Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area by downloading the iOS version of the App. The service has undergone several months of trial operation, with Austin taking the lead in late June and the Bay Area following suit. Initially, the service was only available to invited users but has now gradually expanded to the general public. In Austin, there is no safety officer in the driver's seat when traveling on non-highway sections; in the Bay Area, a safety officer is always present. Tesla plans to fully eliminate safety supervisors by the end of the year, achieving fully autonomous operation.
