On November 18, news broke that GAC Aion had recently been granted China's inaugural license for conducting 'L3-Level Autonomous Driving Road Tests in Specific Scenarios' at a top speed of 120 km/h. This achievement makes GAC Aion the first automotive manufacturer to obtain such an authorization. It represents a major leap forward in the path to the real-world implementation of conditional L3-level autonomous driving on Chinese highways.

The vehicle designated for the test is the GAC Aion A800, a product of joint development efforts between GAC and Huawei. This model incorporates GAC's Xingling Safety Protection System and Huawei's ADS 4.0 Intelligent Driving Solution. Together, these technologies deliver a comprehensive suite of safety features and a specialized L3-level autonomous driving solution tailored for highway use. The GAC Aion A800 boasts an eight-system redundancy design and is outfitted with 34 high-precision sensing sensors, ensuring robust and reliable performance.
