Tesla has unveiled its most comprehensive report yet on the efficacy and safety of its sophisticated driver-assistance system. The data reveals that in North America, drivers utilizing the FSD system encounter a major accident only once every roughly 5 million miles driven, on average, and a minor accident once every approximately 1.5 million miles. This accident rate is markedly lower than the national average figures released by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Previously, Tesla's quarterly 'Vehicle Safety Report' faced criticism for lacking sufficient data and for not revealing safety information from the autonomous taxi pilot program in Austin, Texas. For the first time, this report also sheds light on the FSD's performance on non-highway roads, indicating that a major accident occurs once every 2.9 million miles driven, on average, and a minor incident once every 986,000 miles, both of which are significantly below the U.S. average. Moreover, Tesla has, for the first time, clearly defined its terminology, adhering to U.S. federal motor vehicle safety standards, and has pledged to update the data quarterly, emphasizing objective and quantifiable metrics such as accident frequency and airbag activation rates.
