The era of complete purchase tax exemption for new energy vehicles (NEVs) in 2025 is drawing to a close. Commencing January 1, 2026, the purchase tax will be reduced by half, with the maximum tax reduction per new energy passenger vehicle capped at 15,000 yuan. In light of these policy adjustments, as of November 13, 17 prominent auto brands—such as Li Auto, NIO, and Chery—have rolled out initiatives to cover the purchase tax difference. These companies will personally foot the bill to subsidize the purchase tax disparity for customers who place orders this year but receive their vehicles next year, aiming to ease consumer worries and prevent order cancellations.
