On November 12, the official website of the National Standard Information Public Service Platform announced that the Ministry of Public Security had organized the drafting of the national standard proposal titled "Technical Conditions for the Safe Operation of Motor Vehicles" and was now soliciting public feedback. This standard was formulated by key entities including the Road Traffic Safety Research Center under the Ministry of Public Security, the Research Institute of Highway Science at the Ministry of Transport, and the China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd. It is slated for official implementation six months following the release of the draft for public comment, superseding the current GB 7258 standard. The updated national standard introduces stringent requirements for speeding alarms and speed-limiting features in passenger vehicles. Specifically, it mandates that after each power-on or ignition cycle (excluding automatic engine start-stop systems), passenger vehicles should automatically default to a mode where the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is no shorter than 5 seconds. This measure is aimed at promoting safer driving practices. Additionally, the standard requires that pure electric and plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles be equipped with a pedal misapplication acceleration control function to prevent unintended acceleration. It also mandates the inclusion of a mechanical release mechanism in door designs to further enhance the operational safety of new energy vehicles.
