At noon on November 12, 2025, an unforeseen incident took place during an extreme challenge test of the Chery Fengyun X3L at the Tianmen Mountain Scenic Area in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province. This mishap not only disrupted the test but also attracted widespread public attention.
Videos from the scene clearly depict that as the vehicle was attempting to climb the staircase, it suddenly slipped backward and eventually came to a halt after crashing through several railings.
A thorough investigation uncovered that the direct cause of the accident was the detachment of the shackle at the fixed - point of the safety rope on the test apparatus. This led to the rope wrapping around the vehicle's wheels, which in turn obstructed its power. As a result, the vehicle slid down and collided with the guardrail, causing partial damage to it.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the natural environment remained unscathed.
On November 13, Chery Automobile released an apology statement. In the statement, the company pledged to spare no effort in restoring the damaged areas. It also committed to assuming full compensation responsibilities and ensuring proper handling of the aftermath.
