According to Business Insider, Ford's CEO, Jim Farley, disclosed in an upcoming podcast episode that after taking apart Tesla's Model 3 and various Chinese electric vehicles, he was taken aback by the significant technological lead these competitors possess. This discovery spurred him to commit to driving a sweeping reform within Ford. Farley highlighted that the Ford Mustang Mach - E has 1.6 kilometers more wiring compared to Tesla's vehicles. This extra wiring not only adds to the vehicle's weight but also drives up battery costs. He stressed that Chinese electric vehicles have already outstripped Western counterparts in terms of technology, cost - effectiveness, and overall quality. This situation has left Ford with no choice but to expedite its transformation efforts to stay competitive in the market.
