On November 11, the vehicle declaration information released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology disclosed that the in-wheel motor variant of the Dongfeng eπ007 has successfully completed its declaration process. This model is set to make history as China's first mass-produced vehicle equipped with four in-wheel motors. Built upon the foundation of the existing Dongfeng eπ007, this new iteration retains the same sleek exterior design as its predecessor and is classified as a mid-size sedan.
What sets it apart is its incorporation of four in-wheel motors, which collectively generate a formidable system power output of up to 400 kW. This setup not only minimizes mechanical losses when compared to traditional drivetrain systems but also reduces maintenance expenses. From a technical standpoint, the deployment of four independent in-wheel motors brings about a host of benefits. Notably, it enhances energy recovery efficiency by roughly 25%. The approval of this declaration signifies a significant milestone, as it officially ushers in-wheel motor technology into the mass production phase within China's passenger vehicle market.
