With the burgeoning number of new energy vehicles (NEVs), the demand for supporting infrastructure has skyrocketed. By the end of September 2025, China's total count of charging facilities had soared to 18.063 million, marking a year-on-year surge of 54.5%. However, the challenge of charging at expressway service areas remains acute, especially during holidays. During the National Day holiday, for instance, the volume of charging on expressways witnessed a 41.95% year-on-year spike, leading to some service areas experiencing queues stretching over two hours and, in some cases, sparking conflicts.

In response, various regions have rolled out a series of measures, including expanding the number of supercharging piles, deploying mobile charging vehicles, and refining management practices. Initial successes have been observed in provinces like Henan and Sichuan. On the policy front, six ministries and commissions have jointly unveiled an action plan, aiming to establish 28 million charging facilities by the end of 2027 to cater to the needs of 80 million electric vehicles. The plan also advocates for fair competition among enterprises and encourages the participation of the private sector.

Technologically, significant breakthroughs continue to be made in high-power charging and smart charging technologies. Pilot programs for large-scale vehicle-to-grid (V2G) interaction applications have already been implemented across 17 provinces, showcasing the potential for a more integrated and sustainable energy ecosystem.
