On November 7, during the inaugural Autonomous Driving Mobility Ecosystem Forum, Xu Wei, a key member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director at the Shenzhen Municipal Transportation Bureau, disclosed that Shenzhen is at the forefront of a groundbreaking initiative. The city is vigorously pushing for the comprehensive opening of all its roadways to intelligent connected vehicles, a pioneering move on a national scale.
At present, Shenzhen has successfully concluded the full-scale data collection endeavor for a staggering 6,000 kilometers of roads throughout the city. Moreover, it has pioneered the establishment of the nation's inaugural dynamic road rights management system. This innovative system empowers qualified autonomous vehicles to navigate all urban roads with ease.
Xu Wei further elaborated that, in the realm of Level 4 autonomous driving, Shenzhen is orchestrating a significant transition. The focus is shifting from merely testing the product and technical prowess of tech firms to embracing market operations led by taxi companies. This transformative phase is anticipated to unfold from the latter part of this year to the initial half of the next year.
Regarding Level 3 autonomous driving, Shenzhen is forging collaborative ties with industry giants such as Huawei to propel real-world testing forward.
