At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Toyota unveiled its innovative mobility concept: "Walk Me." This autonomous walking seat is outfitted with four mechanical legs, purpose-built to tackle the mobility hurdles encountered by those with limited physical abilities. Departing from the conventional wheel-based design, Walk Me draws inspiration from the way animals move. This allows it to seamlessly adapt to a wide array of challenging terrains.
The product boasts an array of intelligent features. It can automatically detect steps, recognize and steer clear of obstacles, and even adjust the seat position and balance on its own. Users have the convenience of controlling it through simple voice commands. Powered by a compact battery, charging the device is hassle-free. Moreover, it can be folded down to the size of a carry-on suitcase in a mere 30 seconds, enhancing its portability.
Although still in the prototype phase, Walk Me represents a glimpse into a future where assistive mobility devices transcend their current constraints, reshape design norms, and offer users unparalleled freedom of movement.
