Honda Motor has recently made an announcement: starting in 2027, it will kick off production of its brand-new, all-electric SUV, the 'Honda 0Alpha,' in India. The company plans to use India as an export hub for this globally strategic model, with the intention of even reverse-exporting it to the Japanese market.
Honda's decision is a strategic response to the intense competition posed by low-priced electric vehicles from China. By taking advantage of India's relatively lower manufacturing costs, Honda aims to boost the price competitiveness of its electric vehicles.
The 'Honda 0Alpha' boasts a minimalist design. Its battery cells will be produced in Indonesia, then assembled in Malaysia, and finally shipped to India for the final assembly of the vehicle.
It's worth noting that Honda recently revised its all-electric vehicle sales target for 2030 downwards and has shifted its focus more towards hybrid models. However, this hasn't slowed down the company's electrification drive. Honda is still forging ahead with its plan to introduce 10 new electric vehicle models in India by 2030.
