On November 4 (Beijing Time), Reuters reported that Tesla is embroiled in a legal battle following a harrowing car accident in Wisconsin. During the incident, a Model S sedan careened off the roadway, collided with a tree, and erupted into flames, claiming the lives of all five occupants inside. The lawsuit contends that a flawed door design hindered passengers from opening the doors to flee the burning vehicle post-crash. Specifically, the lawsuit points to the malfunction of the lithium-ion battery pack after the impact, which led to the failure of the electronic door system. Rear-seat passengers in the Model S were forced to lift the carpet to access the mechanical handle, a design choice deemed far from user-friendly. Alongside Tesla, the administrator of the driver's estate, who was deemed responsible for the accident, is also named as a defendant in the case. Presently, the lawsuit has been submitted to the state court in Dane County. Additionally, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has initiated an inquiry into potential door defects in select Tesla models.
